Baptism bears
A candle is often presented to families at a baptism to help the family remember the great day of God’s grace. ‘You are the light of the world; let your light so shine to the glory of God the Father.’
In the heat of Central Australia, a candle is not always a practical gift for such an occasion.
After several baptisms and more being planned in the Anmatjere and Alyawarra areas north-east of Alice Springs, a young mum, Tanya Barber, has started knitting ‘baptism bears’ as an alternative to the candles.
These bears will be presented as baptismal gifts—maybe with the encouragement to ‘bear one another’s burdens, and in this way fulfil the law of Christ’.
If you would like help to knit and ‘bear’ some of the work for mission, please contact Tanya (morris_tl@hotmail.com) for the pattern. Completed bears can be sent to Tanya’s dad, Pastor Ray Morris, who is a Support Worker with Finke River Mission: PO Box 2129, Alice Springs NT 0870.
