Yirara College in Alice Springs is ahead of the curve in ensuring education is delivered to its students who can’t attend school due to COVID-19 restrictions.

On Monday 28 October 2019, Unity College in Murray Bridge South Australia presented Year 12 students with a variety of awards and acknowledged their graduation during a valedictory service. Among the graduating class were four students from Areyonga.

Each year, 24 Year 11 students and six staff members from Luther College in Melbourne travel to Alice Springs to engage with the student community at Yirara College.

Yirara College was honoured to be chosen to host His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG GCVO, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, acknowledging the 60th anniversary of the award in Australia.

Since Alice Springs Lutheran Church founded Living Waters School over 30 years ago, the school has seen a steady increase in Aboriginal student numbers, now at 16% of the school’s total enrolment.

For a week in October, staff and students from Unity College in Murray Bridge, South Australia, visited the Utju (Areyonga) community in the Northern Territory. The service trip was eye-opening, humbling, challenging and rewarding for the students and staff involved.

Not a reindeer or snowflake in sight, but that doesn’t stop the Christmas story being celebrated or Christ coming to the hearts of his people once again.

Sixteen Yirara students have publically confessed their faith in the Triune God before a large crowd. The class was the largest for many years, so the service was held in the basketball stadium.

Over the last 12 months, Unity College in Murray Bridge has been working with families from Central Australia developing educational partnerships.

It was an exciting and special day when 13 young people from the Hermannsburg community gathered for their confirmation.
