Up and running
Before I came to Central Australia, Pastor Paul Albrecht gave me three pieces of advice. The first was to be kangkintja – a Western Arrarnta word for a kind and loving man. The second was to be a pastor and trust that people would soon get to know who I was and why I was there.

Remembering Pastor Ronnie MacNamara
Ronnie was born around the early to mid-1940s at Manyira (Bowson’s Hole), southwest of Areyonga (north of Tempe Downs Station). His father, Billy McNamara, was a whitefella of Afghan descent who hailed from Oodnadatta.

Synod offering supports hymnbooks
The offering from this year’s LCANZ Convention of General Synod in-person meetings is contributing more than $30,000 towards an FRM project producing, revising or reprinting Lutheran song and hymnbooks in Central Australian Aboriginal languages.

Synod welcomes Finke River Mission delegates
Melbourne’s city skyline was a stark contrast to the vast verdant landscape of Central Australia for four Aboriginal delegates attending the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand’s 20th Convention of General Synod from 9 to 12 February 2023.

I was born out in the bush on 16 October 1947, so now I am 75 years old. When I was young I never thought I would become a pastor. I was a stockman, riding horses, doing cattle work.

God at work at Anmatyerr
Since starting work part-time with Finke River Mission last November, it has been challenging to establish any kind of routine. COVID restrictions and family commitments have created interruptions to my ministry in the Anmatyerr area, where there are about a thousand speakers of the language.

Pillar of church and community: remembering Lindsay Corby
Lindsay Tjapaltjarri Corby was born on 1 May 1954 at Haasts Bluff and ordained as a Lutheran pastor on 22 June 2008. He passed away on 4 February 2022 at Kintore.
